Speech 1: Introductory Speech
(50 points)Dates: Jan. 14 - 19
Assignment: Introduce a classmate to the class, telling about this person’s life, goals, interests, and so on. You will also award this person a trophy based on an accomplishment or character trait he or she exemplifies.
Procedure
ü
Interview your partner using the list of topics on the back of your Trophy worksheet. Take notes on notebook paper—be as detailed as possible. Remember to save your notes in your notebook.ü
Organize your notes in a logical way by related topics and transfer them to note cards.ü
Get your partner’s trophy worksheet, read over it, and make sure you understand the trophy you will be presenting to them.ü
Deliver the speech with your partner: introduce them by using your notes and then read the trophy worksheet to conclude.Grading: Your grade will be based on time—your speech must be at least two minutes long. With a total possible 50 points, you will lose 2 points for every 5 seconds under the two-minute length. Also, you must use note cards when performing the speech or lose 10 points. The trophy worksheet must also be included at the end of your speech, so make sure you get this from your partner. (You will give the worksheet back to your partner after you both do the speeches.)
Below is an example of the grading sheet that will be used.
